Feedback from ‘The Book Festival’ – 2015

I visited on both days and found I was in a wonderland. The energy coming out of the participants buoyed me up and spurred me to newly consider following the same path of self-publishing. The quality of the productions was amazing and being surrounded by “real” books was great. And to learn of the steps to go was of great interest.  A couple of my friends said they would have visited but realised it was probably going to be all e-book people looking at their screens or trying to sell – but I replied it was nothing of the sort – in fact e-books were overwhelmed by proper books – and not once was I asked if I wanted to get involved with the e-book world – it was certainly given as a way but not to the lost of printed page.

Thank you for your letter and I certainly look forward to the next festival – and I’ll try and drag my friends along as well – and as the current chairman of the Auckland Ex Libris Society (over 80 years old) I will be giving them a report this Sunday on the joys of the festival. – John Webster

Really impressed with the professionalism / quality of books, and the camaraderie of authors and writing professionals – but disappointed with sales.  Meeting people I’d never met in person before (only online) and feeling more motivated to keep on keeping on, meeting readers of my work who came to tell me how much they loved my books, and building new connections with people. I was blown away with how much people supported each other. – ZR Southcombe, Author & Artist

Dear Beautiful, Kind, Generous, Amazing, Delightful Louise,

A million thanks for all you did and do to create a wonderful event fulfilling a need that so many NZ’s want. It also helps in untold ways during this time of change into technology. As in all change the pendulum swings too far before it comes back to the centre into balance. So we have paper books versus ebooks and so we keep alive the paper books until they and the ebooks reach a balance. There will always be a need for both. The only way we could mingle with people exuberating similar passions were to be together sharing our stories and love and you did that for us in more ways than you know. So thank you from the bottom of my heart Louise. May God bless you in all you do and love. – Mary Duggan, Author

Thank you so much for all your hard work and effort in putting on the book festival. In all the years I’ve done markets (23) I have dealt with many organisers. Not many had a genuine passion for what they are trying to achieve (usually $$$$ took over) and I can honestly say I never saw any of them receive the love and hugs people gave you over the weekend.  Well done to you fantastic lady.   I am committed Louise. It’s wonderful seeing the networking between the writers. I think sometimes people judge an event on financial gain, but it’s so important to share and learn from others doing the same work. Invaluable. And the contacts. You are creating a great event. Everybody’s on the same page (couldn’t help myself) xox. – Janine Tate, Author & Artist
