Meet the team

The NZ Book Festival Committee for 2016 is comprised of a range of kiwi authors with a wealth of expertise among them!

They are: Louise de Varga, Andrene Low, Jo Carson-Barr, Fiona Cole, ZR Southcombe & Robyn P Murray.

Louise brings a wealth of experience to the committee, being the force behind both the 2014, 2015 & 2016 NZ Independent Book Festivals. She has a passion for reading, writing and people and published her first children’s picture book in 2014. It is because of her love of bringing writers and readers together that the festival was born.

Andrene is a twice published author, with a third novel due out by the time of the NZ Book Festival in November 2015. She also has over twenty five years in production management working for large multi-national ad agencies. During this time, she has been responsible for the implementation and overseeing of numerous large scale events, such as the book festival.

Robyn is the author of nine children’s books, one translated into Spanish and Braille. She contributed to and published two more; plus anthologies of stories, and has read her work on radio. She enjoys marketing, selling, meeting and sharing with other writers the demanding, rewarding job of writing books. Robyn attended the first two NZ Book Festivals and recommends highly writers and readers attend.

Fiona has made a living out of writing for over 12 years, in business communications, content marketing and editing services. She has plenty of tips for authors on self-promotion and creating an online brand. In 2013 Fiona launched an independent publishing label in Northland to assist local writers with self-publishing to bookstore standards, which she now operates out of Dunedin.

Vicky Adin is a New Zealand author living within walking distance of the beach, the coffee shops and inspiration. After decades of genealogical research and a life-long love affair with words (she actually enjoyed writing essays at school) she combined these skills to write poignant novels. By smoothly weaving family and history together, based on real people, with real experiences, she makes the past come alive.

Meet the authors

Come and meet authors who’ve turned their passion for writing into stories for you.

The Book Festival’s goal is to share great books being written by New Zealand authors.  It brings a huge number of writers and readers together in a way not possible online or at standard bookshops. You have the opportunity to talk to NZ authors about their passion – be it fiction, non-fiction, children’s picture books, ebooks, young adult adventures or some other genre you haven’t considered reading before.

Publishing your own book is hard work but getting it in front of the buying public is even harder.  Many book stores only deal with the major book distributors or are asking unrealistic wholesale prices.  For this reason many of the books at The Book Festival won’t be found in mainstream bookstores.
